NDIS Specialist Therapies
Some goals need specialist support, such as building communication or daily living skills, or understanding behaviours of concern. Aus Care Community Services helps participants across Sydney and NSW connect with specialist therapies and bring them together with the rest of their supports.
What Are NDIS Specialist Therapies?
Specialist therapies are supports that help participants build skills, independence and wellbeing. Depending on a participant’s goals and plan, they may include developmental education, early childhood supports, mentoring, allied health and behaviour support.
Developmental Educators
Aus Care Community Services provides developmental educators directly, and connects participants with developmental educators who suit their goals. Developmental educators work one-on-one with participants to build everyday skills, such as daily living, communication, social skills and independence, using practical, hands-on strategies at home and in the community. They can also support families and support workers to use the same strategies, so progress continues between sessions.
Early Childhood Supports
For children under 9, we provide early childhood supports focused on developing life skills, such as self-care, routines, communication and social skills. Supports are planned with families, so the strategies fit into everyday life at home and in the community. Families of young children may also connect with the NDIS early childhood approach through an early childhood partner, who can help with information and next steps.
Mentoring
Our mentoring is delivered one-on-one, at home or in the community, by experienced support workers and qualified mental health workers. Mentoring helps participants build confidence, develop life skills, set and work toward goals, and take part in their community.
Allied Health
Aus Care Community Services has its own allied health team, and also works closely with other allied health professionals, so participants can access the therapies that suit their goals. Therapies include:
- Occupational therapy
- Speech pathology
- Physiotherapy
- Psychology and counselling
- Dietitian support
Behaviour Support
Behaviour support helps participants develop safer, more positive ways to express themselves and engage with others. Our Behaviour Support page describes a process that starts with a functional behaviour assessment, followed by a positive behaviour support plan, implementation and training, and ongoing monitoring and review.
