The NDIS can fund help with household tasks, including cleaning, where it’s related to a participant’s disability and included in their plan. Aus Care Community Services provides NDIS cleaning support across Sydney and NSW, as part of our In-Home Support & Personal Care.
Can the NDIS Pay for Cleaning?
Yes, in many cases. The NDIS can fund help with household tasks when a participant needs support because of their disability. These supports are usually funded under Assistance with Daily Life, in the Core Supports budget.
What the NDIS funds, and how much, is decided by the NDIA, and depends on each participant’s plan and needs.
What’s Usually Included
- general house cleaning, such as vacuuming, mopping and dusting
- cleaning kitchens and bathrooms
- laundry, including washing, folding and ironing
- changing bed linen
- keeping walkways clear and the home safe to move around in

What’s Usually Not Included
The NDIS generally doesn’t fund:
- everyday cleaning costs a person would have regardless of disability
- cleaning for other members of the household
- heavy or specialist work, such as pest control, carpet steam-cleaning or home repairs, unless specifically included in the plan
Garden and yard maintenance is a separate household task that may be funded where it’s related to your disability and included in your plan.
How to Get NDIS Cleaning Support
- Check your plan for Assistance with Daily Life funding.
- Talk to your provider about what help you need, and how often.
- Agree a regular schedule that fits your routine.
- Review it if your needs change.
If cleaning isn’t in your plan but you need it because of your disability, talk to your NDIS contact about whether a plan reassessment is right for you.
